Favorite Movies: A Little Princess (1995)"I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny, old attics. Even if they dress in rags. Even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young. They’re still princess, all of us. Didn’t your father ever tell you that?”
Charlie Bartlett (2007)
So at my freshman orientation for college, we had a presentation on sexual assault. The lady who spoke was fantastic, and this was her opening PowerPoint slide. I wish I had gotten the rest of it.
How about some love for a good police officer?
Officer Gaetano Acerra
Responded to a call where a 13 year old boy didnt want to live in his home anymore. He found out that the family couldnt afford a bed or much else for the teen.
So he bought him one. A big queen sized one.
He also bought him a Tv and someone donated a Wii, so now they play whenever Officer Gaetano Acerra has a chance
He also plans to get him a dresser, mirror, and a hamper. Among other things he needs but cannot afford.
People. They’re not ALWAYS a bunch of bastards.
The corruption needs to go.
This guy can stay.
Mass produce this guy. There needs to be more of him
This is probably the second or third time that I’ve shared this, but this is a night for spoken word poetry, and this is my absolute favorite spoken word poem.
The Addict, A Magician - Michael Lee
The honest telling of a story about addiction, the death of a friend, and how tough recovery can be after the fact.
We’re all human, we make mistakes, we go through tough times, and this poem has been one of the things that has helped me internalize that notion. It’s something I’ve understood for quite some time, but not enough for me to let it influence the way that I interact with or perceive others. In general we have a tendency to forget this, but I think the only way to reach solidarity is to change the way we view each other. Seeing someone speak of a struggle that only a select few can understand and one that most go through alone in such a charged and emotional way is eye-opening if this isn’t something you would have thought about prior. Also, his performance is beautiful.
